PhD Program

PhD program is a doctor level academic degree that focuses on advanced research and scholarship in the field of Fine Arts/Media Art. It is a terminal degree and individuals pursuing PhD in fine arts/media art/performing art/visual arts typically aim to become experts in their chosen field of artistic practice or art history and theory. Those who have master’s degree in dance, drama, music, paintings, sculpture and applied arts and also film can pursue for PhD in fine arts. Admission to PhD programs in fine arts is highly competitive and applicants are expected to have strong Academic background and a demonstrated commitment to their area of study. Research students seeking admission to PhD programs will have to clear PhD entrance test conducted by the University.

Eligibility

Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET) being essential qualification for admission to the Ph.D. programme offered in the University.

  • Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. programme shall have successfully completed Master's degree programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate.
  • A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates.

Admission Procedure

  • PET EXAM shall conduct twice in a year (January and July). It shall be conducted in ONLINE mode.
  • Candidate has cleared the PET; he/she will be eligible for the admission to the Ph.D. programme throughout his/her career.
Exemption From Pet For Ph.D. Program
  • Candidates who have qualified the UGC-NET
  • Foreign INRI candidates who have obtained master's degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA (6.0) and passed PET examination conducted by the University.
  • Candidate already possessing Ph.D. degree in any discipline from any statutory University shall also be exempted from PET.
